ARTICLE

ARTICLE

Articles are the words that define a noun as specific or unspecific There are two types of articles,

1) Definite Articles:-
Definite article is the word "the".  It limits the meaning of a noun to one particular thing.

Eg:- Are you going to the Kozhikode railway station?

In the above example the destination is a specific noun, so we used the article "the" before the Kozhikode.

Please find more examples below.

    a) Please give me the red hammer.
    b) I was admitted in the Medical College.
    c) I am reading the Bible.

2) In definite Article
The indefinite article takes two forms. Its the word "a" and the word "an". If the noun that comes after the article begins with a vowel sound, the appropriate indefinite article to use is "a". vowel sound is a sound that is created by any vowel in the English language: 'a,' 'e,' 'i,' 'o,' 'u,' and sometimes 'y' if it makes an 'e' or 'i' sound.

Eg:-   An advertisement on the radio.( Here the noun advertisement starts with the vowel sound, so we used the article an)

If the noun that comes after the article begins with a consonant sound, the appropriate indefinite article to use is 'a.' A consonant sound is a sound that comes from the letters that are not the vowels in the English language.
Eg:- A tire on my car (the noun the article modifies begins with 't,' which is a consonant)
